FORTY IS THE NEW THIRTY AND RUBBER ROOMS ARE THE NEW CATTLE CARS: TIME TO REMOVE THE STATUE OF LIBERTY FROM NEW YORK AND PERHAPS THE U.S.
Most people have no idea just how bad it is for teachers in this country or what is happening to them. I'm a teacher in the NYC Department of Education's rubber room. New York City teachers are the latest group that is being denied their civil and constitutional rights. Many are being sent to detention centers euphemistically called
"rubber rooms" for bogus or trumped up charges in order to get veteran teachers to leave the system. Many of these teachers are excellent teachers who have won awards such as teachers of the year and who's who among Americas teachers. Many have more than 20 years of dedicated service as a teacher.

Why is this happening? So that Mayor Bloomberg and Chancellor Klein can eliminate high paid veteran teachers and replace them with lowered paid novice teachers. It is the beginning of the corporatization of the American school system. And by the way, this is happening throughout the entire country. Not just in New York City.
It used to be that teachers were sent to these "rubber rooms" when they did something really egregious, like having sex with a student, beating a student up, getting in a fist fight with an administrator or fellow teacher, doing drugs, etc.
Now, however, the "rubber room" is being used by the BloomKlein administration to get rid of veteran teachers who have done nothing wrong, who usually have 20 years or more in the system and who are age 50 or greater. Many of these teachers have won awards as teachers and we have one who was awarded by Mayor Giuliani "Teacher of the Year."
A pat of the student on the back, a disagreement with an administrator, protecting oneself from a violent student, putting on your makeup incorrectly, performing a science demonstration in which a student falsely accuses you of touching her breast, a student falsely accusing you of looking at her breast, or her dire-air, etc. Any of these will win you a visit to the "rubber room."
The worst part is, most are not even told what they are being accused of for months after they have been sentenced to the "rubber room." When you ask your principal, AP, etc. why you're being sent there, the favorite response is "I can't say."
And no matter what you did or did not do, the DOE investigators (who are always ex-NYC police detectives paid $1400 a day) will always find you guilty of something if they want to keep their jobs. If they can't find any dirt on you, they will continue to go back to your school and question and sometimes intimidate anyone they can until they find some dirt on you.
By the way, you are not permitted to have any contact with any student at your school, meet your accuser or cross-examine them in any way. If you do, it is considered to be interfering with an investigation and is immediate grounds for termination.
Additionally, if you are sent to a "rubber room," it is the DOE's policy to now give you a "U" rating for the year regardless of the fact that you have not been in the classroom.DR. LEONARD BROWN HAS A FILE NUMBER AND PERHAPS SOON THE NEW YORK DOE WILL DETERMINE A NEED TO TATTOO IT ON HIS ARM. THIS IS WHAT OUR EDUCATION SYSTEM HAS COME TO BECAUSE THE PUBLIC HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY DENIED THE TRUTH ABOUT WHAT IS GOING ON IN OUR SCHOOLS. In her November 28, 2006 article, Daily News reporter Erin Einhorn said: "Brown said he heard the girl claimed he touched her breast during the process - an allegation he denies." She quoted Brown: "'Assuming I wasn't moral and ethical, I'm not stupid,' he said. 'Do they think I'd be stupid enough to molest a girl in front of 34 witnesses? To me, this is absolutely insane.'" She said that teachers are afraid to interact with students other than "stand behind a barrier and read," pointing out a negative direction in Education, i.e. students with the power to ruin teachers' careers.BROWN CONTACTED CONGRESSWOMAN CAROLYN MCCARTHY. ONLY TIME WILL TELL IF HE HAS ANY MORE LUCK THAN THE THOUSANDS OF US WHO HAVE DONE THE SAME. READ WHAT HE SAID SINCE IT EXPRESSES EXACTLY WHY THE PUBLIC NEEDS TO BECOME INVOLVED. A COUNTRY THAT TREATS ANY OF ITS CITIZENS, THIS WAY CANNOT SURVIVE. AND TEACHERS ARE NOT JUST ANY CITIZENS. THEY ARE THE CITIZENS CARRYING US INTO OUR FUTURE.
BROWN, ONE OF THOUSANDS OF TEACHERS LEFT TO COPE WITH RAW EMOTIONS OVER THE LOSS OF A CAREER AND A BELIEF IN A COUNTRY THAT SEEMS TO HAVE NO BASIS IN REALITY.
IF YOU STILL HAVEN'T FIGURED OUT HOW SERIOUS TEACHER ABUSE IS, YOU ARE NOT A STUDENT OF HISTORY. JUST REMEMBER THIS: FORTY IS THE NEW THIRTY AND RUBBER ROOMS ARE THE NEW CATTLE CARS. NAPTA
