The following is a brief summarization of my experience, which is available in detail in my book, "Guilty Until Proven Innocent- A Teaching Experience, " available at Amazon.com.

I had the good fortune of stumbling on a career that excited, challenged, and completed my professional life. For at least eighteen of my thirty plus years of teaching I worked with more than competent educators and some of the nicest students in a classroom setting. This changed when two successive administrations (headed by two different Superintendents of the Philadelphia Board of Education) altered the rules of conduct and responsibilities. Initially teachers were intimidated and harassed to alter student's report card grades to fit into a preconceived formula for A's, B's, and C's. When giving unearned grades did not work with my sense of what was right, I was specifically harassed, for over a year, and eventually accused (falsely) of physically abusing -corporal punishment- a female student. I have documented all that occurred including the incompetence of both administrative and compliant union officials. The events are factual and only the names of the students in my classes have been changed. From 1997 to 1999 one teacher and one student (who was directly involved in the incident leading to the false allegation) at George Washington High School committed suicide.
When teachers are bullied (harassed and intimidated) this profoundly affects their entire being as well as the type and caliber of student education.
